Biography

This is HILARY LEICHTER's first website! She is very excited.

A born performer, Hilary hit the stage at an early age with a definitive turn as the Cat in her first grade production of The Brementown Musicians. The New Yorker called it "An [unforgettable] afternoon." Forgettable or not, Hilary fell in love with those cute cat ears and that cute cat makeup, and decided that theater was kind of groovy. She has yet to play Grizabella, but some of her favorite roles include: Martha in The Secret Garden, Adelaide in Guys & Dolls, Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress, Luisa in The Fantasticks, Carol in Oleanna, and Lauren Bacall in Let's Be Frank at the 13th Street Repertory Company.

(Note: Hilary looks nothing like Lauren Bacall.)

While attending Haverford College she fell in love with writing, and incorporated this new found passion with her preexisting mad theater-love. During her senior year, she was awarded the E. Clyde Lutton Memorial Fund for her play, 7 Stories High. The play was accepted to The New York International Fringe Festival for the summer of 2007, and she went on to produce it with her friend and colleague, Brendan Wattenberg. She graduated from Haverford with a BA in English and a concentration in Creative Writing.

Nowadays, Hilary is a bonafide Brooklyn girl. You can find her working for the wonderful and inspiring Mary Rodgers Guettel, and for an exciting and innovative off-Broadway theater company called The Play Company. She made her NYC Cabaret debut in December of 2007 with her solo show at Don't Tell Mama.

Hilary loves: LOST (guilty pleasure), her family and friends, her GLORIOUS friend Caitlin for building this website, Chipotle, Eddie Izzard, and the book Yiddish with Dick and Jane. When she grows up, she wants to be a combination of her mother, Laura Nyro, and Jackie Hoffman.
